When I first came to Korea I kept a blog. It started out as mostly observational stuff…stores selling nothing but eggs, people stumbling home at seven in the morning, things of that nature. Over time I started to write essays and even did some news-style coverage of events like the Hwang Woo-Suk debacle.
I always enjoyed doing the blog. I did it mostly for me. It was no frills, no photos. Just text. My thoughts. Bad editing.
I stopped doing it because one day, while looking at the archives, I realized that I’d written a couple books worth of text. I figured that if I was enjoying writing for free/for me, I’d probably enjoy writing a novel than maintaining a blog.
So I did. I started a novel last year, finished it, and am in the editing process now.
Yes, this is a new blog. But it won’t be anything like the one before. I might alternatively title this blog: “shit I dig.” This is where I’m going to daily note things I’m thinking about, looking at, reading, listening to, eating, touching…you get the idea.
